Teases & Dares’ Remix Round Up featuring Bunny X (Cassetter), Donna Allen (Dr. Packer), Ariana and the Rose (Initial Talk) & Louise (AMYL)

22 Nov

These round ups have become increasingly frequent thanks to some top notch remix action we’ve been enjoying throughout the year. We can confirm there will be a top 100 remixes of 2023 column (and playlist) on the way next month and it’s bangertastic. The 4 we are profiling today are all in with a shot of making the final countdown such is their pedigree.

First up we have the 2nd taster from Bunny X’s forthcoming ‘Love Minus 80’ remix album which lands in a few weeks. Cassetter has made ‘Daydreaming’ (an album fave for sure) a touch more danceable but without losing any elements of that dreamy sci-fi melody line. Keep your eyes peeled for Bunny X across all 3 of our year end best ofs – tracks, albums and remixes – they are going to feature in a big way.

Next up a legend and a classic song paid proper dues and the utmost respect with this remix. Disco demigod Dr. Packer has caressed Donna Allen’s ‘Joy and Pain’ ever so gently with extra disco flourishes making us fall in love with the song all over again. This is one of our favourite pieces of music from the past few weeks – pure bliss.

Whenever you see Initial Talk’s name on a remix you know you’re in for a treat, you’re just not sure which hat will be worn. In the case of this rework of Ariana and the Roses’s ‘Cosmic Lover’ we take the Expose/Lewis A Martinee route which always makes us happy.

Finally, a year after the single dropped in original form, Louise’s ‘Super Magic’ has had the remix EP treatment. Steve Anderson’s extended version is of course pure genius. So too the AMYL remix which is basically a homage to Princess’s ‘Say I’m Your Number One’. Gotta say we love Lou doing this 80s electro funk sound – thinking The Jets, Tracie Spencer and Joyce Sims.
