Violet Sands – No Matter What

31 Jan

With members who have been in bands such as Savoir Adore and French Horn Rebellion it’s no surprise that Violet Sands’ new single ‘No Matter What’ is absolutely sparkling. With ‘ooh oohs’ that threaten to burst into The Supremes’ ‘Baby Love’ and the spiritĀ of Aaliyah’s bouncy 90s RnB these guys are ones to watch.

Kirsten Izer – Up

31 Jan

T&D is definitely favouring the slightly more alternative brand of pop in early 2016. And here’s another great find fitting that bill rather well – let me introduce you to Kirsten Izer. With some very Debbie Harry/Kim Wilde early 80s hair styling going on there is definitely something very cover girl-ish about Kirsten and even though ‘Up’ is a dark and broody bit of alternative pop methinks there is a potentially huge pop/rock star in the making right here but one with the ballsiness of Liz Phair and Pink combined.

Alina Bea – Everything Is Right

31 Jan

The end of two relationships – one personal, the other professional -is the subject matter for Alina Bea’s soon to be released EP ‘Live Undone’. First taste of that EP ‘Everything Is Right’ is super classy grown up pop – with lots of odd sounds and treatments keepingĀ it left of the mainstream.

TEEN -Please

30 Jan

Another taster from TEEN’s upcoming release on the getting-cooler-by-the-minute Carpark records. This album is shaping up to be one of my most anticipated releases. ‘Please’ is a dreamy, warped sounding plea to get the man/woman in your life to communicate a bit more effectively.

Idylmere – Reckless Love

30 Jan

Idylmere just uploaded a gorgeous new tune to Triple J Unearthed. ‘Reckless Love’ is all over the place, in a good way, with its influences. There are some Prince-slow-jam keys along with a bit of a Cat Power soulful vibe. And all topped with a very now demo-ish indie layered vocal. Nice.

Frida Sundemo – Beautiful Heartbeat (Space Orchestra Version)

30 Jan

Well Frida’s own take on her collaboration with MORTEN is stunningly beautfiul. Yet more other worldly crystal clear pop from our lady who really needs to share a full album with us in 2016.

Prince Rama – Bahia

30 Jan

Stumbled across this by total accident. So glad I did. This brand of quirky, indie dance pop is right up my street. And the imagery on the band’s ‘about’ section on their website – I mean perfection! Giving me Kim Wilde’s ‘The Second Time’ Barbarella-gone-pop look. New album ‘Xtreme Now’ drops in March.
