Bright Light Bright Light/Elton John – I Wish We Were Leaving

So a flurry of BLx2 news today. First a single with Elton John! And then, most excitingly confirmation of album number 2 which is up for pre-order for July.

Tina Arena – Don’t Hide (7th Heaven Club Mix)

A little randomnly the remix package for Tina Arena’s Don’t Hide has appeared on iTunes in the UK although there is no sign of the very wonderful Reset album which has already gone platinum in Australia.

Rainy Milo – Bout You

Have blogged about this uber soulful young lady before and out of nowhere her debut album is up for release in a fortnight. Here’s the most recent video, for Bout You.

Angel Olsen – Hi-Five

Patsy Cline for the low-fi garage rock crowd. Heart wrenching and ballsy.

Junior Prom – Sheila Put The Knife Down

This track surfaced at the end of last year but is properly available now on a rather groovy little EP. This wouldn’t have been out of place on the first Foster The People album. I do like it when indie and synths collide.

Shura – Touch

This minimal electronic soul groove really is the sound of 2014 isn’t it? Banks is of course leading the way but there’s plenty more good stuff out there like this gorgeous offering from Shura.

Marlene – Stay Awake

No, not Boyce’s wife in Only Fools. This young woman is yet another promising Swedish artist. Musically Aaliyah, vocally Mariah, stylistically Mo. That’s quite a package.

Salt Ashes – Somebody/Little Dove

Salt Ashes – Somebody/Little Dove

I am blogging this again as the 3 track single is up on iTunes today and it’s the best £1.79 you can spend. Lead track Somebody has been on constant repeat for the last few weeks and my love for it is not waning. Extra track Little Dove is much removed from Italo-does-Kylie of Somebody and is more in step with the wave of dramatic electronic soul Banks is producing.

Lapsley – Station

Beautiful. Minimal. Haunting. Not much else to say.

Lovestarrs – Get Your Sexy On

Lovestarrs – Get Your Sexy On

I was gutted when The Good Natured were unceremoniously dropped last year and the completed album was not allowed to travel with them. The Richard X involvement on tracks like 5HT made for a very full pop sound. You can’t keep a good band down and so The Good Natured are reimagined as Lovestarrs. You can’t help but wish good things for them.
