ZZ Ward – Last Love Song

ZZ Ward – Last Love Song

ZZ’s debut album has been out for yonks but it’s been gaining in momentum of late. She must be one of the hardest working young musicians in the US and has been gigging the life out of the album. It shows that hard graft can really pay for. Here’s the latest video for Last Love Song which if you close your eyes could easily be a cut from Adele’s 21.

SomethingALaMode – On My Mind (feat. Dwntwn)

I was looking for the new Dwntwn EP when I chanced upon this M83/Bright Lightx2-ish track featuring vocals from Dwntwn. A lovely little find.

Sky Ferreira – I Blame Myself

Sky Ferreira – I Blame Myself

One of the absolutely standout pop singles of the year. Sky absolutely soars on the chorus of this track which for me shows a strong Kim Wilde influence – but I would say that. Kim never gets mentioned as a potential reference point for modern female artists but Sky is definitely going there.

Lana Del Rey – West Coast (not the proper video!)

Lana Del Rey – West Coast (not the proper video!)

I didn’t blog this straight away because I wanted to live with it for a while to see if I could get over my initial excitement for new Lana and give an objective-ish view. Well I blooming well love it. It’s everything she said Ultraviolence was going to sound like. This is no commercial sell out after the success of Born To Die. It’s a deeply dark, swampy, spaghetti western soundtrack to something directed by David Lynch – I don’t know what that means but that’s what the song sounds like to me.

Twin Shadow – To The Top

Twin Shadow – To The Top

This first taste from Twin Shadow’s new album appears to be dividing the hardcore fans. His previous album Confess will be tough to better but I’m optimistic after hearing this 80s tinged/M83 sounding track.

Future Islands – Seasons

Future Islands – Seasons

My good musical buddy Christopher Ratcliff over at http://www.popdin.co.uk raved about the Future Islands’ album cockily titled Singles and so I had to buy it. It hasn’t been an instant hit with me but is definitely what they call a grower. This track is certainly worming into my brain.

Pawws – Sugar

So pleased to hear that Pawws has signed with the uber groovy Best Fit records. Her Slow Love track from last year was a real gem. Here’s new track Sugar from her EP due to drop in June. Definitely one for fans of Annie and Little Boots.
