Holly Palmer – Family

30 Jun

If you have never listened to Holly Palmer’s back catalogue you really don’t know what you’re missing. From the jazz-tinged indie pop of her self-titled debut to the experimental electronica of ‘Tender Hooks’ (in my all time top ten list – it’s THAT good) via the huge pop and RnB sound of ‘I Confess’ to the mellow and souful ‘Songs For Tuesday’. Right there you have four classy and beautifully diverse records. Last year Holly finally released her ‘ A Family Album’ album via a Pledge campaign. The album is getting a new push digitally later in the year and the title track has just been included in Paul Rudd’s new movie ‘Ideal Home’. The track is also finally up on Spotify. It’s a song about family in all its forms and especially talks about Holly’s own son Maceo who experienced a brain injury at birth. He’s one awesome little man and his Mom rocks too. Here’s the quirky, jazzy big band swing of  ‘Family’ for you to enjoy.

Johnny Stimson – Gimme Gimme

29 Jun

Loving the funky direction Mr Stimson has gone in with his new jam ‘Gimme Gimme’. It’s got some 80s Hall and Oates class and a fizzing Timberlake-esque swagger.

Favor – Mannequin

29 Jun

Totally loving this early 80s electro-flecked bop with shades of Groove Armada’s ‘Song For Mutya’ and some Penguin Prison too. Such a fun jam.

Garcons – Little Things

29 Jun

So if I said Deee-Lite meets Shamir that would work for you right? That’s what I’m hearing on Garcon’s super fresh ‘Little Things’.

Kim Wilde – Birthday

29 Jun

Great memories of an outstanding tour come flooding back with the new video for Kimmy’s ‘Birthday’. I’m quite sure there are at least two more singles left on ‘Here Come The Aliens’ such is the strength in depth of this incredible pop record. For now enjoy this one and blast it loud like it’s your birthday!

Steven A. Clark – Feel This Way

28 Jun

‘Where Neon Goes To Die’ might be my favourite album title this year. Steven’s new record is out soon on Secretly Canadian and both Frank Ocean and Prince are mentioned as influences. That comes through loud and clear on the superb ‘Feel This Way.

L’Imperatrice – Vacances (Yuksek Remix)

28 Jun

Disco magic from Yuksek on this stunning remix of L’Imperatrice’s already rather wonderful ‘Vacances’.

Novaa – Club Paradise

28 Jun

Some dark yet epic and uplifting electro from Novaa. ‘Club Paradise’ sounds rather cinematic and quite anthemic. Watch this one soar.

Mr Twin Sister – Jaipur

28 Jun

Sounds like a Roisin Murphy, Sade and Deidre and The Dark supergroup just happened. It didn’t – just to be clear! But if it did, it might sound like Mr Twin Sister’s luxurious new single ‘Jaipur’.

Young & Sick – No Static

28 Jun

Let’s start with the artwork – skulls and purple smoke = works for me. The track has all sorts going on – some indie funk, some brassy disco, a slightly dark vocal – they combine beautifully. ‘No Static’ is going to be on repeat at T&D towers for days.
