Strangers On The Internet – Missed Connection

23 Jun

Following the excellent ‘Good Problems’ the cleverly named Strangers On The Internet return with the equally classy ‘Missed Connection’. Luxurious and dramatic electropop with Little Boots feels to the vocals.

Surfing – Otherside

23 Jun

Those Aussie cult legends Surfing are back. One of the longest stretches between albums comes to an end next month with the release of ‘Incubo’. Much fuzzier than ‘Deep Fantasy’, ‘Otherside’ is the sound of Jesus and Mary Chain gone yachtpop. Imagine that. A woozy and delightful daydream.

Laura White featuring Ms Banks – Heartbreaker

23 Jun

Yes THAT Laura White – the X Factor winner that never was! So she’s still making music and on the strength of ‘Heartbreaker’ I’m intrigued. Anyone making summery Hinda Hicks-esque 90s RnB with some gentle funk is alright with me.

All Saints – Love Lasts Forever

22 Jun

The outstanding lead track from All Saints’ forthcoming ‘Testament’ album now has a video. These ladies are looking and sounding as good as they ever have.

The Mary Onettes – Cola Falls

22 Jun

Cascine really is one of the best labels – I associate them so strongly with quality releases. The Mary Onettes are a new name on me but ‘Cola Falls’ is sublime electronic indie with a slight 80s synth feel to it.

St Lucia – A Brighter Love

22 Jun

One of my most adored bands dropped a surprise two track single today – yes those St Lucia lovelies are back. ‘A Brighter Love’ is uplifting power pop and makes us realise how much we have missed them. Summertime perfection.

Kim Wilde – Birthday

22 Jun

Single number three from Kimmy’s outstanding ‘Here Come The Aliens’ album. ‘Birthday’ has had the radio edit treatment and here it is for you. There’s a marvellous extended 12 inch mix on the way from Ricky Wilde and a video too. There is so much to enjoy in this Wilde era.
