Nina (featuring LAU) – Forever/The Distance

28 Dec

Teases and Dares’ artist of the year is Nina. Having delivered our album of the year (‘Synthian’) alongside some stunning guest vocal features and the monster sized rock remix of ‘The Wire’ with Kim and Ricky Wilde, she then came up with yet more new music earlier this month. The ‘Drive’ soundtrack sampling ‘Control’ EP presents a handful of neon drenched dark synth gems and we’re sharing the rather Wilde-esque ‘Forever’ as it’s becoming a new favourite. Back to ‘Synthian’ and there’s a new lyric video for the dreamy album closer ‘The Distance’. Enjoy both and thank you Nina for being the soundtrack to the craziness that has been 2020.

Anabel Englund – Picture Us

28 Dec

A last minute change to our albums of the year list was required after the 11th hour release of Anabel Englund’s ‘Messing With Magic’ record. Since its release a couple of weeks ago we’ve had the album on repeat. It’s an uplifting collection of electronic dance music but elevated above the rest of the pack by Anabel’s beautiful voice and eloquent lyrical content. Whilst it’s mainly bops and bangers at every corner there are some quieter moments too. However, we all need a mood lift right now so we are sharing ‘Picture Us’.

ANIMAL – Daylight

27 Dec

We know Swedish songwriting trio ANIMAL from their recent collaboration with T&D regulars Rebecca & Fiona. Turns out they have a single of their own which has the softest 80s synths and could have snuggled nicely on to a mid 80s Cyndi Lauper album.

Pure Shores – Fantasy

27 Dec

This is always a pretty quiet week for new music but there are a few gems from recent times we are just picking up on today. Marlene and Ji keep the 90s/00s dance pop bangers coming with their Pure Shores project. ‘Fantasy’ properly kicks in during the back half with the house piano being used to good effect.

Juno Disco – You’re So Hung Up On My Colours

26 Dec

Imagine Cut Copy’s/Miami Horror’s indie dance vibe given a huge serving of disco lasers and glittery synths but with sunny poolside feels too. Well that’s the sound of Juno Disco’s new tune ‘You’re So Hung Up On My Colours’ – we love how the synths explode at the back end of this one. It’s looking like 2022 is probably when we can expect a sun lounger vacation moment but we are lining this one up for when we have cocktails on the way and a parasol above us. Dreamy artwork too.

Ralph Myerz and Ane Brun – Directions (Everything Is Possible)

26 Dec

Ralph Myerz sure knows how to pick fellow Norwegian pop legends to work with (he has a killer single in his back catalogue with Annie – “Take A Look At The World”). He’s now taken Ane Brun’s song ‘Directions (Everything Is Possible)’ and turned it into a Ibiza-the-morning-after-chilled-but-not-quite-ambient blissed out dreamscape. We’re hearing ‘Hairless Toys’ era Roisin Murphy on this one. It’s mesmerising.

Roxi Drive – Hot Night (Glen Jevon Remix)

26 Dec

The UK’s retro synthpop princess Roxi Drive just surprised us with a Boxing Day remix package for ‘Hot Night’. Originally by Laura Branigan (and written by the legend that is Diane Warren), ‘Hot Night’ gets a smoother synthed up remix courtesy of Glen Jevon alongside an extended play of the rockier single version. Roxi is a fan of Kim Wilde so she just gained about 1000 extra cool points for possessing such taste. Actually hearing a bit of Ricky Wilde’s production in the way Glen Jevon went about this remix.

Beks – The Thing About Us

23 Dec

So here’s an Aussie we appear to have unacceptably overlooked. Say howdy to Beks. Her new tune ‘The Thing About Us’ is a candy coated pop diamond with a hook that Scandipoppers like Dagny or Tove Styrke would be pleased with.

Megan Vice – Feeling Good (featuring TT The Artist)

23 Dec

T&D fave Megan Vice just dropped a big dose of summer sunshine which is most welcome at this bleak time of year. ‘Feeling Good’ is some discoey electronic RnB with Megan’s usual funky vibes very much in play.

Top 50 Remixes of 2020

19 Dec

Our third and final best of for 2020 – it’s the one to make you move! Fewer rules on this one – we’ve allowed two from the same artist/remixer! There are some whopping tunes in here so chuck the playlist on and if you are in the UK momentarily forget which tier you are in and have a kitchen boogie. Love and light from T&D – thanks for reading/listening and see you all in 2021.
