Heartstreets – Cruising With You

30 Apr

Great band name, great song title, great promo pic on Soundcloud. These girls look like they would be perfectly suitable to take home to your mother but would secretly be making eyes at your Dad over dinner. Musically it’s street savvy minimal RnB-flecked pop of the highest order.

Sally Shapiro – If You Ever Wanna Change Your Mind

30 Apr

The title is a fitting one for what we understand is the final Sally Shapiro release. These guys have flown under the radar over the course of their career. One of pop’s best kept secrets Sally Shapiro’s Scandi take on Italo disco has always been a dreamy and divine treat for listeners.

Janice – Don’t Need To

30 Apr

As debut singles go they don’t come much classier than Janice’s ‘Don’t Need To’. The beautifully understated vocal from this Swede and the chugging synth line work perfectly. Very promising indeed. Stockholm really is the place to be isn’t it? Can’t wait to get back there.

Alice Jemima – Liquorice

30 Apr

I don’t care for the sweet but by golly the song is delicious. Alice has delivered a devilishly sultry vocal on this brittle but funky ditty. It’s sugar free too.

Janet Jackson – Dammn Baby

30 Apr

Or ‘Dammn That Baby’ as those of us with cancelled Janet concert tickets have renamed it. Of course we can’t really begrudge JJ a chance to start a family – just might have been helpful to have thought about it before announcing a world tour. Anyway, gotta move on and as ‘Dammn Baby’ is one of my favourite cuts from her stellar ‘Unbreakable’ album here’s the new lyric video for it. No hard feelings!

Sidibe – You Wanna Love Everybody

30 Apr

Am really succumbing to Sidibe’s soulful charms. This is her 2nd track in a row which is a gorgeous retro 90s RnB slow jam. Sidibe is managing to combine the best of Janet and Aaliyah along with a more mature Anita Baker feel.

Leon – Tired Of Talking

30 Apr

It seems yonks since I introduced you to Leon. Somewhat out of the blue her sublimely groovy ‘Tired Of Talking’ has a video and here it is for your viewing and listening pleasure.

Kyla La Grange – Hummingbird

30 Apr

Am hoping these new tracks which Kyla is drip feeding us are leading to her third solo album. She’s been busy as part of Faithless’ touring band but found time to set free ‘Hummingbird’. The tune has a gorgeous melody and as always the production is flawless.

Leitbur -Antique Travelers

26 Apr

I only discovered and blogged about Leitbur for the first time last week but they just dropped the title track from their new album and so I felt the need to mention them again. Album wise it sounds like it’s going to be a classy, chilled affair with some sparkling synths.

Erin Tobey – Work It Out

26 Apr

Erin Tobey is an entirely new name on me but her tune ‘Work It Out’ is a happy bit of indie pop and will totally be your thing if you were a fan of Camera Obscura. Also has that bedroom synth sound Au Revoir Simone do so well.
