RYAL – Thunder (Solo On The Dancefloor)

31 Oct

Landing somewhere between They/Live’s astral sci-fi synthpop and classic Pat Benatar, RYAL’s ‘Thunder (Solo On The Dancefloor)’ is a sometimes dark yet also hopeful anthem. Reflecting on the life of a friend who passed away during the pandemic, RYAL say the song is about the safe haven offered up by both a good friendship and quality music. Sadly we’re all solo on the dancefloor right now but as RYAL say, music will get us through.

AKA Lui – Pushing Me Aside (Lazywax Remix)

31 Oct

This New Music Friday and associated weekend has really been about the remix. There are some incredible reworks hitting our headphones right now. We’re loving the laid back but twinkling disco shuffle Lazywax has given to AKA Lui’s recent single ‘Pushing Me Aside’.

King Princess – Only Time Makes It Human (The Blessed Madonna Remix)

31 Oct

We’ve not long shared this one in original form. However, The Blessed Madonna has done it again with a groovy take on the wonky pop track. More dancefloor ready than the original but with none of the musical quirkiness removed.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Crying At The Discotheque (Music Video)

31 Oct

Not going to lie to you T&D readers, we shed a little tear watching this one. A poignant video for our times, showing Sophie having a disco for one in a whole bunch of iconic venues – several of which where we have enjoyed magical musical nights. We all have to keep the hope that we will be crying happy tears at the discotheque again some day. What joy we will all feel when that happens.

Agnes – Fingers Crossed (Until Dawn Remix)

31 Oct

Agnes’ ‘Fingers Crossed’ was already one of the top bops of 2020. Until Dawn have somehow managed to elevate it further with this absolutely belting remix which has made it our number one choice for a kitchen disco for one this wet and rainy Saturday.

PREP – Danny Came Up

31 Oct

We’ve been sharing PREP’s singles for several years now and love their retrotastic sound. It’s great to see that a self-titled album has seen the light of the day. We’re sharing ‘Danny Came Up’ to kick things off this weekend in a chilled yachtpop kinda way. As always, the artwork is flawless with a PREP release.

Georgia Lines – Made For Loving You (Jack Burton Remix)

30 Oct

We’ve mentioned how delightful the 2020 EP from Georgia Lines is – it certainly will please fans of Jessie Ware. On that tip, there’s a new remix courtesy of Jack Burton which goes deep into a disco groove and we simply adore it. Georgia’s velvety voice suits this sound so perfectly and the remix is lush.

Client Liaison – Intervention

30 Oct

We were wondering when those stylish Aussies Client Liaison were coming back to charm us with their unique brand of luxury pop. ‘Intervention’ is a switch up sound wise – with a Pet Shop Boys in party mode meets 80s funkpop feel – and a blast of brass too.

Royal Blood – Trouble’s Coming (Purple Disco Machine Remix)

30 Oct

Well we thought we’d seen it all in 2020…until……..a Purple Disco Machine remix of Royal Blood? And what’s more – it’s freakin’ fantastic. It’s like a long lost Scissor Sisters track from the ‘Night Work’ era (our favourite Scissor Sisters era by the way).

Delta Goodrem – Solid Gold (Initial Talk Remix)

30 Oct

Good ole’ Initial Talk has worked his magic again, this time on Delta’s ‘Solid Gold’. The track has taken on an 80s Europop summer holiday smash vibe and she’s rocking the Debbie Gibson hairdo in the roller disco for one in the video clip.
