The Galleria – Stop & Go (featuring Jessy Lanza)

17 Nov

Huge fans of Jessy Lanza and she’s an absolute joy on The Galleria’s ‘Stop & Go’ which has so many classic RnB/pop reference points – all of which we adore. There’s a touch of Janet’s ‘When I Think Of You’ in there for sure. The info on The Galleria’s YouTube page says it way better than we could;

“The Galleria is a project from Morgan Geist (Storm Queen, Metro Area) that ripples with the indigenous music of long-dead, suburban New Jersey shopping malls: bombastic freestyle, club dubs, razor-edits and bubblegum-pop R&B, all trickled down from golden-era NYC radio stations.”

Riki – Napoleon

17 Nov

Starting like some classic mid 80s Europop like Sabrina or Spagna but morphing into an almost popgoth take on the distinctly New York sound absolutely owned by Blondie as the 70s flipped into the 80s with disco, new wave and punk battling it out. Riki’s album arrives in February 2020.

Electric Guest – 1 4 Me (Yuksek Remix)

17 Nov

More disco deliciousness on the remix front from Yuksek who has the glitterball midas touch right now. His take on Electric Guest’s ‘1 4 Me’ is a more understated but still highly danceable affair.

O Future – Jump In The Lake

17 Nov

We have shared several O Future tracks over the past year or so and almost missed the release of their debut album ‘Voyeur’ last week. It’s a rather startling collection of slightly sinister but always beautiful dark electronica which feels like it should be soundtracking something a bit David Lynch-esque. ‘Jump In The Lake’ is an almost classical delight, and has some wonderful Goldfrapp qualities to it.

New Arcades – Now And Forever

17 Nov

The synthwave army is really surging. So many great artists out there right now and they seem super supportive of each other which creates quite the movement. The UK’s answer to The Midnight is New Arcades and they are giving the kings of the genre a run for their money on their new album ‘Returning Home’. We were drawn to ‘Now And Forever’ as it shares a name with a Kim Wilde album of course and it also happens to be an instant fave from ‘Returning Home’ – epic and cinematic synthwave at its best.

Ralph – Headphone Season

15 Nov

T&D stalwart Ralph just released a delicious set of tunes via her ‘Flashbacks & Fantasies’ EP. Early highlight for us is ‘Headphone Season’ with its throbbing electro beat and Ralph’s now trademark powerhouse vocal.

Say Lou Lou – The Look Of Love

15 Nov

Wasn’t sure about this when I heard it was going to be a cover of a song which has been done to death. However, I should have had faith because this version of ‘The Look Of Love’ is a like a forgotten Drive soundtrack bonus track. Shimmering Italo goodness. Welcome back ladies.
