Uni Deluxe – Tell Me

31 Aug

Helium filled future funk from Uni Deluxe on his turbo charged track ‘Tell Me’ which is taken from the new album ‘Paradise’. Beautiful artwork on the album by the way – giving us Japanese City Pop feels.

Calvero – Believe

31 Aug

Another single and more quality stuff from Calvero. ‘Believe’ is a more subtle almost jangle pop take on the 80s sound he’s mastered to a tee. It’s more melancholic and restrained although he still totally lets rip on that vocal.

GL – Night Habit

31 Aug

Loved GL’s ‘Touch’ record and we like where they are heading with ‘Night Habit’. There’s some luxurious late night 70s disco vibes as well as a hint of the naughtiness that was George Michael’s ‘I Want Your Sex’ (oh and maybe Mariah’s ‘Honey’ too on the little piano bit). This one feels an exotic and decadent treat for the senses.

Holiday Party – No One

31 Aug

We love how Holiday Party throw the song structure rule book out the window with their compositions. ‘No One’ never quite settles into a traditional melody yet still manages to be a big pop moment.

Beverly Girl – Talk About The Weather

31 Aug

80s styled electro funk pop from Finland’s finest. ‘Talk About The Weather’ also reminds me of a few tracks from Deni Hines’ ‘Pay Attention’ album. The band have an album on the way called ‘The Unstoppable Force’ and we look forward to holding that in our hands.

Patterns – Lo Que Me Das (Toucan Sounds edit)

30 Aug

NY’s finest Toucan Sounds lend Mexico City’s Patterns a slab of their squelchy late night disco as they rework ‘Lo Que Me Das’. Luxury funk if there is such a thing.

joedewaal – Balance

30 Aug

I’m continuing to explore largely instrumental electronica and really enjoying the experience. I stumbled across this incredibly chilled and quite stunning piece of music by joedewaal called ‘Balance’. The beats are rather minimal but the production is lush. Plus I’m such a sucker for some spoken word samples sparingly dropped in at perfect moments. The artwork accompanying the track on Soundcloud is ideal as well.

DVNA – Sushi In Tokyo

28 Aug

The Aussie Gold Coast is home to DVNA (and indeed it was home to Teases and Dares many moons ago!). Sushi is just about our least favourite food in the world however ‘Sushi In Tokyo’ is actually delicious. Sublime and laid back RnB with such a delicately thumping groove. Shout out to another Aussie legend Bridget Hustwaite for including this one on her best new tunes list.

Cray – idontwannatalkaboutlove

28 Aug

Smooth as silk vibe and wonderfully articulate lyrics on offer from Cray on this sophisticated dreamy pop bop.

Tove Lo & Jax Jones – Jacques

28 Aug

I’ve been waiting for one of the album teasers from Tove’s forthcoming ‘Sunshine Kitty’ album to really hit me and ‘Jacques’ is the one. Tove and Jax Jones have created a proper banger. And we still have the duet with Kylie Minogue to come – that one really needs to go off.
