Alison Valentine – Pixie Dust

31 Jul

Ms Valentine is not the most prolific of artists but boy when she drops a track it sure has quality written all over it. Pixie Dust sits very nicely with previous tracks Peanut Butter and Curious and is one for fans of space-age RnB like Banks, LIZ and FKA Twigs.

Boy Names – Slow

31 Jul

2 track EPs don’t come any better than Boy Names’ Instant Ambition/Slow. The former has been blaring from my ipod all week and Slow is equally brilliant. Only this week I found out these guys are fans of Dame Kim of Wilde – so now I REALLY love them.

SBTRKT – New Dorp New York

31 Jul

Completely mad, 100% brilliant. SBTRKT’s album Wonder Where We Land is one of the most hotly anticipated of the pre-Christmas silly season which really kicks off in October. He’s assembled a classy list of collaborators including Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Keonig on this absolutely storming first single as well as Warpaint and Jessie Ware on the album.

Astronomyy – Nothin’ On My Mind

31 Jul

This guy first came to my attention last year and he’s finally put out a proper EP – released on iTunes this week. Astronomyy makes very classy chilled electronic indie, sitting nicely alongside S O H N, East India Youth and Bipolar Sunshine.

Ayer – Black Diamond

27 Jul

Ayer’s Circle Down is one of my favourite tunes from the past year and here’s another slice of classy electro-soul from the man himself – Black Diamond is out now.

Broods – Mother & Father

27 Jul

Broods will soon be following in the footsteps of fellow Kiwi Lorde and into the international album charts when their debut long player is released. Bridges remains my favourite track of theirs but this is the new video for the very lovely Mother & Father.

Daley – Look Up

27 Jul

Sadly Daley has been somewhat overtaken by Sam Smith and John Newman (both a bit yawnsome for me) in the UK soul dude stakes. However, his debut album is still glorious and here’s a new video for Look Up.

Erik Hassle – Pathetic

26 Jul

One of my favourite EPs of the year has a lead single with a video at last. Pathetic is Lovesexy-era Prince with Erik’s own brand of Scandi-electro pop thrown in. Loving how many emerging artists are referencing his royal purpleness at the moment (see also How To Dress Well, Boy Names and Andy Bull).

Jenny Lewis – She’s Not Me

26 Jul

The third taster from The Voyager which is out next week and I am so darn excited for this one. She’s Not Me is a poppier effort and would have fitted nicely on Rilo Kiley’s last studio album Under The Blacklight.

Lana Del Rey – Ultraviolence (The Penelopes Remix)

26 Jul

Never the biggest fan of remixes in general but this disco-ing up of Lana’s gorgeous album title track is quite lovely. Hopefully to be proper released shortly.
