Abracadabra – At The Zoo

28 Jan

Abracadabra’s ‘Shapes And Colors’ is the first great record of 2023. We’d been struggling with January blues and had not been able to properly attach to an album. That changed on hearing this one. It’s as glitchy and fidgety as we are at the moment and therefore totally reflects the mood of the day. Musically it would be easy to say it’s Wet Leg with a dollop of Tom Tom Club but there other more nuanced influences (perhaps) like the british pop starlets the Belle Stars or Natasha from the early 80s and more recently Lou Hayter. A sonic delight from start to finish and for fans of physical products the artwork and packaging for both the CD and vinyl are scrummy. Here’s ‘At The Zoo’ which is the moment we fell in love with this.
