Lizzy McAlpine – Doomsday

14 Apr

T&D returned to seeing live music this week and we were spoiled by the quality. The gig in question was Lizzy McAlpine’s very exclusive album launch gig at Camden Assembly Rooms. Lizzy played the whole of her stunning new record – ‘Five Seconds Flat’ – in tracklist order and solo with either keyboard or guitar. The set was finished off with three classics from her debut album. She possesses such a rich and controlled voice as well as coming across as such a natural storyteller, completely at ease with her audience. We’ve chosen ‘Doomsday’ to share with you because we feel it shares a musical DNA with a few tracks from Sheryl Crow’s legendary ‘Globe Sessions’ album (the swampy indie blues type tracks a la ‘Riverwide’). The record is exemplary from start to finish and jumps into the race for AOTY.
