Teases & Dares’ Disco Round Up featuring T-Groove & Maya Killtron, Saucy Lady, Thandi Phoenix & Arona Mane, Payfone & Kyd Nereida

26 Feb

Our definition of disco is pretty broad and we welcome all things disco adjacent or influenced! We are still playing catch up after our first overseas trip in years so apologies for grouping this batch – it doesn’t detract from their superior quality.

T&D regular Maya Killtron teams with T-Groove for the positively uplifting ‘Keep On Dancin’. If you like what you hear then be sure to check Maya’s recent album ‘Persimmon’.

If City Pop and Boogie are your thing then you’ll already be listening to Saucy Lady, an artist we became familiar with last year. We jump on every Saucy Lady solo track or feature and she never misses the mark. Newbie ‘Break The Ice’ has quite a nod to 80s pop funk like The Jets’ ‘Crush On You’ or Nu Shooz’s ‘I Can’t Wait’. Squelchy synths abound.

Thandi Phoenix and Arona Mane join forces for a modern RnB and house twist on the disco sound but it’s no less groovy. ‘Hot Sauce’ is spicy and brassy in all the right places. Swagger in bucketloads.

We round things up and take the pace down a smidge in the process. Payfone aren’t the most prolific but they set the bar way high. Every now and then they bob up with a luxurious and exotic groove – desert disco if you will as is evident on ‘I Feel You’. Musical humidity if ever we heard it. Kyd Nereida provides the vocal on this seductive slow disco shuffler.
