It’s been a great week for new synthwave releases. The artists featured in this batch demonstrate the versatility within the genre and each bring some special synth sparkle to the table.
Primo The Alien – Beginning Of Us
Primo’s first release for 2023 is an EDM spacerock banger. Gaga meets vintage Kim Wilde but with a unique Primo spin including her trademark power vocal – let it rip. After a handful of listens we think ‘Beginning Of Us’ might be among her best work yet.
Star Madman & Fonz Tramontano – Together
Proper collaborative musical magic occurs on this glittery pop diamond. ‘Together’ appears to give nods to Animotion’s ‘Obsession’, classic Saint Etienne on the vocal and maybe even MGMT in the opening and closing moments. It’s a charming effort and we just adore the way chorus lifts up out of nowhere.
Pensacola Mist – Surrender, Surrender
Our album of the year artists from 2022 have plenty of life left in their stellar ‘Lost In Love’ record. There’s a clever dual camera, single shot video for ‘Surrender, Surrender’ just out. Seeing these guys live in 2023 is the very top of our gig wish list.
Vincenzo Salvia & Oblique – Gossip
Perfect artwork and punchy Italo pop on offer here from T&D regular Vincenzo Salvia. We are shouting out Oblique too after stunning us with THAT fizzy Bunny X collaboration last year. ‘Gossip’ is a heap of cheeky fun.
