Isabella Manfredi – Seasons Change/Only Child

3 Sep

We loved pretty much everything The Preatures ever put out and it was sad when they broke up citing “personal and financial” reasons. We just knew, however, that their charismatic and uber talented frontwoman Isabella Manfredi would be back on stage and on record at some point. We are so excited, therefore, to be exploring Isabella’s debut solo record ‘Izzy’ this weekend. It’s a really rich listen and we have selected a couple of instant standouts. Album opener ‘Seasons Change’ is a slick, late 70s, early 80s US FM radio hit if ever we heard one – think Stevie Nicks’ ‘Stand Back’ and Steely Dan’s ‘Peg’. We looked up the credits for this one and it’s a co-write with T&D hall of famer Emma Louise which explains a lot. Lyrically we were very taken with and touched by ‘Only Child’ which has a narrative hitting very close to home and delivered with proper emotion by Isabella. The whole album is going to be on repeat and zooming onto the album of the year shortlist.
