As much as we like to think we keep up with the squillions of new pieces of music sent spinning into the atmosphere every week, we have to accept that every now and again we miss a real gem. Now Web Rumors is one act we are REALLY kicking ourselves for overlooking because after two full listens to the ‘New Tricks’ album and we are declaring fandom for life. This is a seriously good album – like genius level.
There are so many of our all time favourite influences cooking in the Web Rumors melting pot. ‘Lovers In Slow Motion’ is the sound of LoneLady covering Madonna’s ‘Papa Don’t Preach’ whilst ‘New Wave Heartache’ is an imaginary jam session between Bat For Lashes, Grace Jones and Toyah. The use of sax across some brittle 80s indie synths is just divine and inspired.
We have to give a shout out to the Pilerats blog for premiering the new Web Rumors single, which we haven’t even got to yet as we are fully immersed in the ‘New Tricks’ listening experience. It was thanks to that post that we discovered this incredible album.
