Lou Hayter – Pinball (Ruf Dug Remix)/Check It

Still very much an album of the year contender several months after release, Lou Hayter’s ‘Private Sunshine’ has just been reissued as a digital deluxe edition – timed with the vinyl press finally arriving. There’s a lot to enjoy. The new deluxe includes a couple of previously unreleased nuggets. First up we have Ruf Dug’s rework of Lou’s cover of ‘Pinball’. The new version feels like a coastal haze coming over you in slow waves of dreamy trippiness – maybe perfect for lounging on the French Riviera? Then there’s an unreleased original in the shape of ‘Check It’ which is a taut bit of strutting funk pop for fans of LoneLady’s recent album and indeed shows off Lou’s love of the paisley purple one too. We hope that there’s a live show at some point where we can enjoy ‘Private Sunshine’ in person – seems only right such a poptastic album gets it’s moment with an audience. This has been the album which has continued to give the MOST in 2021. Thanks Lou!
