Music Go Music – Nite After Nite

Music Go Music – Nite After Nite

It’s been a few years since we heard from these guys whose last album was a bizarre but incredible Abba-meets-indiepop hybrid. They have found their inner funk on this new track from their forthcoming album due later this year. It’s presently a free download via their Soundcloud.

Lana Del Rey – Shades Of Cool

One of the many album highlights from Ultraviolence. Another perfect match between video imagery and song which Lana just seems to nail every time.

The Preatures – Two Tone Melody

The Preatures – Two Tone Melody

It’s great to see a group playing with all sorts of sounds even before the release of their first album. This new track from The Preatures is very different to what we’ve heard so far, including the wonderful Is This How You Feel. Two Tone Melody is a laid back bit of 70s woozy folk, calling up images of Laurel Canyon on one US coast line and Woodstock on the other.

Nicole Scherzinger – Your Love

Nicole Scherzinger – Your Love

Totally didn’t see this one coming. Was not expecting to like the new Nicole single quite so much. Her solo output has been a bit meh so far. However this is rather hypnotic with some sparkly 90s house piano to boot. Far, far better than incoming X Factor judge Cheryl Cole’s new single which is just awful.

Sharon Van Etten – Every Time The Sun Comes Up

Sharon Van Etten – Every Time The Sun Comes Up

I was fortunate enough to see the amazing SVE in London this week, thanks to my ever reliable musical comrade John Thake. Despite suffering with a cold Sharon treated us to a wonderful set, dominated of course by the new album but also throwing in some favourites from Tramp including Serpents! This video is for the closer to the new album – it’s a lovely little country-tinged song for sunset or sunrise, whichever you prefer.

Ben Khan – Youth

This guy’s EP is quite something. This is the track which hooked me in – so many influences from different eras bubbling through on this track. The video is really stylish too and compliments the track incredibly well.

Solomon Grey – Electric Baby

Solomon Grey – Electric Baby

Another new discovery just this week. These boys add to the current roster of epic sounding electronic artists like S O H N, East India Youth and Jessy Lanza. This new track is quite something and having quickly bought up their back catalogue of singles on iTunes, an album is keenly awaited.

Bernhoft – Come Around

This Norwegian soul dude is something else. I just discovered his album Islander and it is going to be the soundtrack to my summer (if summer ever happens). The album is full of brilliant songwriting and musicianship, blending together the best bits of Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai, Al Jarreau and Maxwell.

The 1975 – Settle Down

The 1975 – Settle Down

Never been the biggest fan of British male guitar bands. However, these guys have a pop sensibility which I can work with! This track is a bit like Haim but with male vocals.
